Jeff's Plankeyed Perspective: To Give or Not To Give...
So we were having this discussion at the radio station yesterday and peoples' opinions were all over the place. It wasn't an argument, but close. Let me say that we're all best friends here, but this question had us wrestling. Here it is:
If someone gives you a Christmas gift UNEXPECTEDLY, should you get them a gift in return?
We all agreed that it's not mandatory, but I'm of the opinion that unless I feel the overwhelming sense that I should do it, I'm probably not going to get a return gift. It would be guilt rather than gratitude that motivated me to do it and I'm not much of a guilt guy.
What do you think?

Jeff's Plankeyed Perspective: Prayer is a Mystery to Me...
My wife, Larisa and I were sitting on the lanai together Saturday morning having coffee together and we were talking about prayer. I admit that although I grew up in the church, went to a Christian college, attended Seminary and lead a ministry...I am a little confused by how prayer actually works. I get that God is listening. I get that in prayer I talk to Him and He talks to me. I reject the notion that prayer makes God like a cosmic vending machine. My questions are a bit more complex, I guess...
1. Is God influenced by my prayers?
2. If I get a bunch of people to pray for/about something, will God change His mind?
This is the stuff I think about and admittedy, I don't understand all this. I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Help For The Helpless
I have lots of friends who want to do stuff to make the world better...they just don't always know where to go or what to do. Can I suggest something? CURE International has built a hospital in Afghanistan that is providing pre-natal, delivery and post-natal care for Afghan women who have seldom received any kind of care EVER from a doctor. For just $125, you can FULLY-FUND this process for one Afghan woman who would otherwise give birth in unsanitary and often dangerous conditions. Go to http://cure.org/brant/ and make a difference in one woman's life where hope is needed.
